Campbell River Festival of Films Brings in The Best Films from TIFF
September 19 2014
The Campbell River Festival of Films will launch its 2014 season in partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival and the newly renovated Tidemark Theatre. These renovations include plush new seats, new carpeting and paint throughout. It also will include a special projector called a DCP or Digital Cinema Projector that will allow the theatre to show a wider variety of films in an enhanced digital format. The quality of the projection will now be as good or better than a regular movie theatre anywhere on the Island!
The Film Festival will present their unique program of films and shorts on the following Tuesdays: September 30th, October 14th, October 28th, November 18th and December 2nd at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
The 2014 season?s passes will go on sale September 13th at the Tidemark Theatre ticket office and on-line at tidemarktheatre.com. The passes will sell for $45 (plus applicable taxes) and entitle the holder to five wonderful films plus a series of shorts and draws at each screening. Individual tickets may be purchased at the door for $12 (plus applicable taxes).
The directors of the Festival hope that by creating this partnership with the newly renovated Tidemark Theatre venue more people will be able to enjoy the unique films and enjoy the wonderful ambiance of the Tidemark as well. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with movies starting at 7:00 p.m. Patrons can gather in the lobby before and after the movie for a glass of wine and an opportunity to discuss the movie of the night with friends and other moviegoers.
The Festival is a successful partnership that was established 17 years ago with the Toronto International Film Festival film circuit. The partnership allows the Campbell River group to book films and shorts directly from Toronto that would not normally make their way to our Campbell River movie theatres.
A new feature added last year allowed season pass holders to get extra value by showing their passes at some of our favourite local restaurants for discounts on their meals on the Tuesday night screenings. This year Fusilli Grill, The Spice Hut, The Royal Coachman, and The Riptide will all offer dinner specials on movie nights.
This fall season begins with Boyhood on September 30th followed by Lunchbox on October 14th. The Grand seduction will be featured on October 28th with Like Father Like Son playing on November 18th. The season finale will be on December 2nd and that movie will be Whiplash.
The organizers want everyone to know that all the proceeds go directly back to our community. Each year, bursaries and camera equipment are given out to local students and schools. In previous years, the Festival has also put on bonus screenings that have helped to raise thousands of dollars to support various worthwhile programs in Campbell River.
So on Saturday, September 13th, head down early to The Tidemark Theatre Box Office to get your seasons passes before they sell out! For further information, please contact the Tidemark Theatre at tidemarktheatre.com or CRFF at camrivff@gmail.com
